Brain Waves Surge Moments Before Death
An article in Discovery News discusses findings of scientists examining the brains of terminally ill patients at the moment of death.
A study of seven terminally ill patients found identical surges in brain activity moments before death, providing what may be physiological evidence of “out of body” experiences reported by people who survive near-death ordeals.
As usual, the implication is that the brain activity is the cause of the event that the subject considers to be spiritual, when in fact it is nothing more than a burst of oxygen as cells die.
Theosophy would argue that what occurs in the brain at the moment of death is the severing of the etheric double from the physical body and that whatever spiritual experience is had is the genuine result of the mind’s sudden and direct exposure to the realities untethered to the material plane.
